What Is Capoeira

More than martial arts.
It's a living culture.

Capoeira is a uniquely Afro-Brazilian art form that weaves together martial arts, acrobatics, music, and community. Born from the resistance of enslaved Africans in Brazil, it carries centuries of cultural memory in every movement.

At UCA Colorado, we practice capoeira as Mestre Acordeon — our founding mestre — intended: as a complete art that develops the whole person. Students learn to move, sing, play instruments, and connect across generations.

Thank you to every guest mestre who traveled to be with us, and to the students, families, and friends who filled the room with music, laughter, and heart. Batizado & Formatura 2026 was a truly magical weekend — new cords earned, old friendships renewed, and the roda never stopped.

To our whole UCA Colorado community: this event only happens because of you. Thank you for cooking, drumming, singing, hosting, and showing up for each other all weekend long. It was an honor to celebrate with you.
